Mediaeval Site Comes Back to Life

Work has started on site to provide 44 new apartments and houses for rent on the open market at Powhay Mills, Bonhay Road, Exeter.

Peter Elliott, Chairman of Signpost Homes laid a foundation stone, which marks the start of the first scheme that Signpost Homes has been involved with in Exeter. He was joined on site by representatives from a past age on Friday 25 May 2001.

The site is located in what was the old medieval part of the City and used to be an old mill called Powhay Mills - hence the name of the site.

The contractors are A & H Gadd of Taunton, Somerset, with Robin C Jones of Exeter as the Architect. There will be a selection of 1,2, and 3 bedroom apartments and houses, some of which will be available to purchase on a shared ownership basis.

The scheme is located close to the City Centre with some apartments enjoying views over the River Exe. They will be available for letting in spring 2002.

Peter Elliott said, "Regenerating brownfield sites is the core business of Signpost Homes - helping bring people back to live in our city centres. Our scheme on this land for housing is the latest use of the site - but we wanted to help to recall historical times, which included a medieval mill called Powhay Mills."
