Directors of Signpost Homes and Beazer Partnerships joined
workers on site to see how piling operations were going
on with this 55-unit development in the heart of Bristol.
St. Clements Court is located just off the
Grade 2 listed Portland Square. The scheme is particularly
interesting because the listed Georgian façade must
remain in order to keep the building in keeping with its
surroundings. The façade will provide a period setting
for the apartments that will be all new build behind the
attractive Georgian street scene.
During piling operations Beazer's construction
operatives have found hidden wells on site and lots of oyster
shells. Apparently this was the staple diet of the locals
at the turn of the century!
The scheme comprises 55 one and two bedroom
apartments, and they will be ready in spring/summer 2002
for rent and purchase.
St Clements Court is to be developed to
a high specification and will include UPVc windows, electric
economy 7 based space heating and hot water systems, carpeting
to all apartment rooms with vinyl polyfloor to kitchens
and bathrooms, hob, oven, hood, washer / drier and fridge
in the kitchens, entry phones, landscaped communal gardens,
and fitted wardrobes in bedrooms.
St Clements Court is a joint project between
Signpost Homes, Beazer Partnerships (the contractor), Bristol
Regional Development Agency and Bristol City Council, to
bring stylish new housing to the centre of Bristol.
Peter Elliott, Chairman of Signpost Homes
said, " This area of Bristol is benefitting greatly
from huge current and planned investment and regeneration.
Its location, which is central to the main Broadmead shopping
centre, railway station and M32, has meant that more people
are now looking to this as an up and coming area to live
in, especially as more professionals establish offices here."
Bob Philips, Divisional Director of Beazer
Partnerships' South West said:
"We have worked closely with all partners to achieve
the attractive results at St Clements Court. This is the
latest in a series of new housing schemes that we are involved
in to improve and bring a new choice of homes into areas
of Bristol that are being regenerated as part of the Government's
"Urban Renaissance" agenda. St Clements Court
will demonstrate our versatility in not only creating new
housing, but also in mixing old with new by carefully reconstructing
parts of the building to retain the existing Georgian frontage"
